I feel your pain. I used to be a heavy linux user and middle click paste was a godsend.
You may have something with recording the signal sent but I don't know of any utilities for mice, just keyboards.
If your RDC client is open-source, maybe you can modify the code to accept a command-click as a middle click. Usually, those types of programs include emulation for stuff like this.

I'm not a mac dev, I found the code looking for the exact same thing(for a different purpose) and figured I might as well post it here hoping that another post in another location would make it easier for people to find.
I just started teaching myself C++ (instead of Obj-C). I'm trying to avoid Obj-C because as Matthieu said, it *is* unreadable. C++ is much cleaner and less error-prone.
Who can resist Object->Method("Some Arg"); ?
Contrast with [object Method:@"SomeArg" Method2:Arg2]; . OK, yeah, you can do two calls in one line with no semicolon, but who cares when readability goes down?

I wonder if the command code that is issued when a middle button is clicked can be captured, and than played back... I am new to macs. I am a unix (Solaris, Linux) dev, and I know that you can capture signals...
I am not sure what utilities are available for macs to capture signals though...
Unfortunately, I need a true middle mouse button, as I need it to emulate paste in a unix window that I am accessing via RDC to a windows machine... This is how I access work, and it is a pain not to be able to paste properly in unix when working from my laptop...

Unfortunately, there's no way to do a *real* middle-click. Believe me, I tried everything I could think of(although I'm not an Obj-C dev, I *can* read documentation and use other examples).

It sends a command-click, so it's only compatible with programs that accept that particular emulation(Firefox, Safari, etc).

Maybe the source for Firefox could be modified to accept a real middle-click. I feel that my solution is sufficient for myself.

I typically develop for myself and then release what I've developed so I'm not going to pursue any other solutions.
